Family Enrollment Guide

Already have a CollegeChoice 529 Direct Account for your kindergarten child?  Complete The Hancock County Promise form HERE (include your Ugift code) and your child will be part of our program and eligible for all our incentives.  Need an account?  Complete the 7 steps below! 

STEP by STEP instructions for signing up for The Hancock County Promise CollgeChoice 529 Direct account are below.  Visit https://www.collegechoicedirect.com/ and follow the 8 simple steps below!

1. About You - (Account Owner)

   1. Personal information - address, phone, email, social security number

   2. You can add a “successor” - another adult (spouse, etc.)

2. About your Beneficiary (Your Child)

   1. You need your child’s SS#.  If you do not have it...use your own SS# and you can change it later.

3. Choose Investments

   1. We are not Financial Advisors.  But, what some people do is put 100% in graduation year portfolios as investors invest the money aggressively now and less aggressively as your child nears graduation and use the money.  We always recommend you confer with financial and tax advisors

4. Pick a funding method

   1. Pick "pay by check". The Hancock County Promise will mail a check for you to open the account.  Remember this is a FREE account.  You are not required to add funds at this time.  However, choosing to start saving for post-secondary education is wise (we would love for you to add funds or reoccurring deposits, but it is not required.  You can always log in later and add ways of funding if you choose.

5. Select a delivery option

   1. Email or US mail

6. Complete your account

   1. Create username and passwords.

   2. Create security questions and answers

7. Ugift code

   1. As you sign-up for your account note your Ugift code or you can always log back in and get the code.  In The Hancock County Promise form below you will need the provide the Ugift code so a deposit of community money can be made into your child’s account.

8. After the above 7 STEPS, your account has been created, however, to be a part of The Hancock County Promise and the program’s incentives for kindergarten students ($25 sign-up money and random drawing scholarships) you will need to complete the short form found HERE.  You do need your CollgeChoice 529 Direct Account Ugift code to complete the form.
